Fri. Jan. 15

Rained most of day. Cleared out and turned colder in late afternoon. Worked at Mrs. Bass’s from 8-1, made $6.25, I sat with Sandra from 2-7 she sure is in pitiful shape. Stopped in K. and brought Kathy home with me. Peg went band. Ray and girls visited Buddy S.

Peggy wanted to be in band, but the family couldn’t afford a new clarinet. She used her mama’s old metal one but the other kids, who all had new black clarinets, teased for the old one. To avoid embarrassment, she left her clarinet at home and told the teacher she forgot it. For a while the teacher loaned her a clarinet, but eventually said that if she couldn’t remember hers, she didn’t need to be in band. Thus concluded her time spent playing an instrument.
