Friday May 28
Ray was gone all day, most of the nite, came in at 3:30 (Sat AM). They killed 11. Ray’s share, including the 2 from Thur was $75.00. One was 12’ 6”, others 5’, three 8’. Preston and Calvin went back during the nite. I worked at Bass $7.50. Went to K. when I picked the girls up, Tricia’s friend Cynthia Engelhard came went us. Girls went to the zoo while I shopped. Bought Ray 3 shirts $1.50 each, also 3 pr. shorts $2.05, few washcloths, panties for me, stick deodorant for Peggy. The girls swam for a little while before Peggy's class went on field trip. Orlando Sentinel had lunch in a park. Had fun but were let down some since they had wanted to go McCoy AFB. Cynthia’s mother came after her. Washed my hair pm. Got school group pictures, Tricia, in colour.
Zoo: There was a municipal zoo in Kissimmee, located right on the lakefront.
$75.00: To put this in perspective, when Myrtle cleaned house for Mrs. Bass, she earned $7.50 for 6 hours of work. That’s roughly $1.25 per hour. Ray was willing to take the poaching risk, which took roughly double the amount of time, for 10 times the amount of money.
