Monday March 29
$18.40 scale fish, $4.92 catfish. Put out 4 more here. Went to town, paid bank, put $ 34.00 in bank. Took a box of dresses to Dorothy Sommers. She gave me a lovely box of cards, and a box of 20 color booklets for the girls. Sent a card to Herdons, Mrs. Chalfant (from Nursery dept.) and to one of our little girls, a birthday. Took Destry home, Peggy rode him to the cattle guard, when she got off to open the gate, he ran all the way to the pasture gate. She was riding bare back. The flowers on the lot are getting pretty, the large red hibiscus had over 30 flowers open today, was beautiful. Very warm, rain PM.
Cattle Guard
A cattle guard is a barrier used on roads or railways to keep livestock, especially cattle, from wandering onto the road or track. It's made up of a series of bars, concrete or wood set closely together over a trench. Cattle guards work because of the depth perception of cattle or other livestock. These animals see the cattle guard as a bottomless pit so they’re afraid of crossing. This eliminates the need for physical barriers like gates or fences.
The Lot
The lot refers to the property that Ray and Myrtle had purchased one road up, on Cherokee Road. They planned to build a home on the lot. Myrtle dreamed of the family having their own place.
