Saturday March 20

$8.95 catfish, 7 turtles, $11.25 scale fish. Dady had supper with us, baked a nice ham. Ray put out 4 more shrimp was windy all day. Girls rode Destry, sure did enjoy him. Everybody racked but me, I did 2 trays though. Got real cool in the evening used electric blankets again. Left shoulder still hurts.

Turtle

When Peggy was a little girl, dark meat chicken was a dinner staple. She didn’t care for it at all, recalling it as stringy and just all around disgusting. When Peggy was a young adult, Myrtle confessed that the dark meat wasn’t chicken at all—it was turtle. Conveniently, each comes with four “chicken thighs.” When your poor and can bring it home from the lake at no additional cost, it makes the perfect “chicken” dinner for a family of four!

To this day, Peggy will only eat white meat chicken.
