Thursday March 11
Pretty day, warmer, sunny. $20.88 fish, Mr. Ware $10.00 4 bass. Put out 4 more shrimp lines here. Tricia went to Brownies. Took Peggy to Dr. Rinamin about her feet. Seems as if she’s growing so fast the bones and muscles aren’t strong enough to support the extra growth. Showed us some exercises to strengthen her feet, no arch supports are to be worn. She’s 5'3" with shoes, weighs 91 lbs, he says she's underweight, should weigh 101 to 111. Gave us a talk on proper nutrition. Said she needs a 2500 calorie diet, must have a very balanced diet. Did a blood test. She is very, very, anemic, 30 but should be 90 or better. Got a prescription for iron tablets 2 a day for 3 months, then come back. $4.75 for iron, also bought vitamin-mineral tablets for Tricia $1.34. Was really surprised to find Peggy so anamic, she eats so much, is so full of bounce, glad we found out. Must get Tricia in for a check-up also. Dady called Ann, no Ann called Dady, all are fine, Jimmy is supposed to go to Okinawa in April, for 18 months. Ann’s boys could go if he signs up for another 3 yrs. Trying to get out of it. Called Senator Holland etc. Glad we’re out of all that. Girls got 8x10 color pictures from school, good, $2 each.
Senator Holland
Spessard Lindsey Holland was born in Bartow, Florida in 1892. He died in 1971. A lawyer and politician, he served as Florida Governor and US Senator.
Ray had been in the military during the Korean War but was discharged and sent home. When Myrtle says, “Glad we’re out of all that,” she’s likely referring to the military life.
Color Pictures from School
While this photo is not in color, this is Peggy’s 1965-1966 class at Ross E. Jefferies Elementary School. The 1964-1965 photo, which is the one that would show this specific school year, is missing. Ross E. Jefferies Elementary School still operates in St. Cloud today. I saw it a few months ago when I went to meet my Aunt Betty, Aunt Debbie and Aunt Cathy at The Catfish Place (much more on that restaurant to come). The school is right next door.
