Monday May 17
Kitchen looked like a disaster area this morning, so many dirty dishes stacked up. Had enough water to wash them though. Cleaned the house and went to town, saw Mrs. Walkins about Peggy's achievement tests, her average is 9.2. (percentile 95%). Had a nice lunch with Tricia, talked with Mrs. Shaffer, they are both doing fine. Picked up the 70 coffee cans from Mrs. Young, Bible School only needs 15. So I'll beep the rest. Look a pile of old magazines library, paid bank, phone bill, old Padgett (iron vitamins) miscounted and didn't have quite enough for GE, and it is so far behind. Bought new iron tabs also (credit). Bought some eye drops, but don't think they helped much so far. Watered Destry and calves after I got the girls, also a few plants. Destry's eating the hibiscus. We’re going to have to get them some feed, it’s so dry and the grass is dead or dying. This has been a hot, dusty day, that awful east wind makes it worse, blows the dust off the road, into the house. Still gets real, cool about dark, sleep under a light blanket with most of the windows closed. Earl L. came about 6, we have water again, more than ever because of the large pipe. Exchanged the housing on our pump for another because of that part—the ventura. Really pumps up in a flash. Watered flowers—or the girls did, washed a load of clothes also. Ray came home about 8, had supper, bathed and had to take Calvin to Deland. Left about 9:15. They did real well today also. Ray got home from Deland 1:30, I hardly slept. - 8-10-7-3

This indicates the size of the gators that Ray and his friends killed when they went hunting.
