Thursday Feb. 25
What a day, don't know when it's ever even so windy. Right out of the west, so we get the full benefit of it right off the lake. It looks like the ocean with all those white caps and waves rolling in. Ray went to town after lunch for kerosene, it got real cold along with this terrible wind. Rained and blew during the nite. He also went over to his dadys, some bad news. He’s been coughing up blood for several weeks. Went to the doctor for x-rays, the x-rays were sent to Jacksonville to a lab or another doctor don't know which. Anyway there seem to be some spots on his lungs. Hope it turns out to be not as bad as they seemed to think. Hope they know something soon. Ray picked the girls at school. Tricia had a fever and sore throat. Dady stopped by for a minute. Scholz's came over to call their son. So windy and cold, hung blankets over the bedroom windows to help the drafts.
Because the house the Seavers lived in had no heat and no insulation, if it was 40 degrees outside, it was 40 degrees inside. They had a kerosene heater for the living room that would have looked something like this:
