Monday Jan 18
Real cold this morning 26° when I got up. Ray took the girls to school and went to get the truck starter fixed. Was $6 parts, $4 labor. I mopped and cleaned up, sure gets a mess over the weekend when its cold and we can’t go out. Washed some clothes, read, made a big pot of soup. We baited 4 corn lines. Ray put them out here after dinner. Cold and windy all day. Kept the gas and kerosene heater on all day again. Peggy went with Ray to feed the animals, Tricia stayed with me and did homework. Can’t tell if any plants are hurt, don’t seem to be, there was no frost here. Aunt Ferne called Dady last nite. She has been in the hospital with ulcers, must have an operation soon. She weighs 85 lbs. Also Patricia’s husband must have 2 discs removed from a fall he had last summer (I think). A refueling tanker plane crashed a few blocks from Ann’s in Wichita, killed about 25 people. Dady called her when he heard it on T.V. after lunch but didn’t get through till that nite. All was well, thank God. The Jourdan’s arrived a few days ago.
On January 16, 1965, a USAF KC-135 jet tanker crashed shortly after takeoff from McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. The plane crashed into a residential neighborhood killing the 7 crew members and 23 people on the ground.
